NEW GENERATIONS SHOOTING SYSTEM
BACKGROUND
In October 2009 The Congress of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) made a historical decision to change over from air pistol shooting to optical/electronical shooting supposing that a usable substitutive technology will be found. This is a very remarkable step towards a new and safe shooting without traditional weapons.
Eko-Aims has manufactured optical shooting systems based on an infrared light and a camera since 1995. They are commonly used by hunting and sporting clubs, companies and associations, and private persons all around the world. The system is also used by the Finnish Defence Forces in the draftee shooting training. The system has been tested in severe weather conditions when used in three Paralympic Winter Games. The latest new generation's shooting system is rooted in technology used and tested for already 15 years. The new system represents a significant new feature - a wireless data transmission.
With this new shooting system Eko-Aims is participating the tender declared by UIPM.
SAFETY
The new generation´s shooting system is environmentally friendly and fully safe for users and surroundings. It is noiseless and totally lead-free. Because there are no laser beams, the shooting does not endanger the athlete or people around him. Neither it can be interrupted from outside. The system gives an opportunity to bring shooting events in places that were out of the question before. Basically, the shooting training can take place even in your own living room.
SHOOTING SYSTEM
The shooting system consists of an Entry-level optical pistol or alternatively of a barrel replacement unit (BRU), an infrared target and an ED-i 3 display unit. The shooting distance can vary between 5 - 15 meters, but the result is always scaled to the 10 meters shooting distance. At the moment there are two shooting programmes in the pistol: a free shooting and a pentathlon competition shooting. The results are indicated by either points or hit/miss shots. New shooting programmes will be introduced as required.
The entry level pistol is specially planned for beginners. It is slightly lighter than a normal air pistol and its structure and functions are simple. However, the entry level pistol includes a totally adjustable trigger unit and micrometric sights. Because of the transparent body, the entry level pistol is easy to differentiate from a real weapon.
BR-unit is a replacement unit for an air pistol barrel. The assembly is easy and quick to perform. When using the BR-unit the shooter uses the air pistol's original trigger mechanism and the shot will be registered by a vibration sensor. BR-units are now available for all common air pistol models.
